Out of the Blue (2006) is a deeply moving action thriller based on the real events of the Aramoana massacre, New Zealand in 1990. On November 13, 1990, the quiet, close-knit seaside village of Aramoana experiences a major event involving local resident David Gray (Matthew Sunderland). A 22-hour event unfolds across the town, keeping local families and residents inside their homes.
Local police officer Nick Harvey (Karl Urban, The Boys, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings) steps forward to help residents. Throughout the overnight situation, ordinary citizens show extraordinary bravery—including elderly neighbor Helen Dickson (Lois Lawn), who makes her way across town to comfort others. As 13 lives are lost, local police move in to resolve the situation.
