The catastrophe begins off the coast of Alaska during an unauthorized whale migration study led by passionate oceanographer Dr. Emma MacNeil (Deborah Gibson). When experimental military sonar testing accidentally causes a pod of whales to panic, the acoustic shockwave shatters a massive, ancient glacier. The melting ice unfreezes two terrifying, prehistoric oceanic behemoths—a gargantuan Megalodon shark and a colossal Giant Octopus—that have been locked in frozen combat for millions of years.
Reawakened in modern waters, the two prehistoric titans launch separate, global rampages of destruction. The Megalodon terrorizes the California coast—executing an iconic, gravity-defying leap out of the ocean to snatch a commercial passenger airliner right out of the sky—while the Giant Octopus crushes naval fleets and devastates coastal installations near Japan. Desperate to stop total global devastation, ruthless U.S. government agent Allan Baxter (Lorenzo Lamas) forcibly recruits Dr. MacNeil along with Japanese scientist Dr. Seiji Shimada (Vic Chao) and oceanographer Lamar Sanders (Sean Lawlor). Realizing that conventional military weaponry and nuclear options will cause catastrophic collateral damage, the scientists engineer a risky, high-stakes strategy: using synthesized prehistoric pheromones to lure both monsters to the same location off the California coast, provoking a city-leveling, winner-take-all final showdown for total ocean supremacy.
