In The Shallows, medical student Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) travels to a secluded, breathtaking beach for a solitary surfing session to honor her late mother. After an idyllic afternoon of riding pristine waves, she paddles back out for one last run and stumbles upon the massive floating carcass of a humpback whale. Suddenly, a colossal great white shark ambushes her, violently knocking her off her board and inflicting a deep bite on her leg. Bleeding profusely and fighting for her life in the predator’s feeding ground, Nancy desperately swims through the crimson water to scramble onto a tiny, isolated rock reef, leaving her severely injured and stranded just two hundred yards from the safety of the shore.
